Mobile Point-of-Care AIOD-CRISPR-based COVID-19 Diagnostics
The recent outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has rapidly spread all over the world and raised global concerns. Rapid and early detection of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of the COVID-19, plays a crucial role in reducing transmission of the virus and facilitating early intervention and treatment (e.g. home isolation, social distancing).
In this webinar, the author will present their recently developed All-in-One Dual CRISPR-Cas12a (AIOD-CRISPR) technology for rapid, ultrasensitive, specific and visual detection of novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
This webinar will also introduce the recent effort on integrating the AIOD-CRISPR assay into our disposable diagnostic device and smartphone-based detection platform, enabling simple, rapid, affordable, mobile, point of care diagnostics of the COVID-19 at home or small clinics.
About the Presenter: Changchun Liu is an associate professor in the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Connecticut. He received his Ph.D. in Physical Electronics at the Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IECAS), China. He has a highly interdisciplinary background and training spanning Engineering (i.e., electronic, mechanical), Chemistry and Biomedicine. Dr. Liu's research interests include the development of microfluidic chips, BioMEMS (Biomedical MicroElectroMechanical Systems) devices, biosensors, wearable devices and their biomedical applications with a focus on point-of-care (POC) diagnostics of infectious diseases (e.g., COVID-19, HIV, ZIKV). He is a recipient of the NIH Career Development Award (K25) in 2012-2017, the Penn One Health Award in 2015, and the W.W. Smith Charitable Trust Research Award in 2016.
